This is my card for the Mix-ablity Challenge on Splitcoast (MIX62)
This week we were challenged to make a mixed media project using Tulips. Well…I didn’t have a tulip die so I went hunting and saw very quickly that my 659242 Sizzix Bigz Camellia die had petals (if they were clipped apart) that looked very similar to a Tulip.
Yeah! Love it when you can take a die and use it for other things.
I created my background over some weathered wood looking paper ( My Mind’s Eye Bramble Rose collection). I stenciled some Design Memory Craft Whipped Spackle mixed with a Gelato (Metallic Melon) through a stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop (Punchinella) to give my background a hint of color and some texture.
I die cut my flowers with my Big Shot from pink cardstock and added some Gesso (just smeared it on with my finger). I didn’t end up using all the flowers I actually only used 4 of the petals for my flower.
Next I scribbled on some Design Memory Craft Gelatos (Coconut, Guava, Watermelon).
I misted with water and blended my Gelatos. Then I darkened the petals by adding more Metallic Melon & Watermelon Gelatos.
I wanted so streaky darker red so I used my Stamper’s Big Brush Pen (Deep Scarlet Red #219) at the base of the petals and smudged the lined with my finger.
I freehand cut the leaves and stem (which were WAY to big… but I cut off the excess) from green cardstock. I added Gelatos (Lime, Squid Ink, Margarita Mix) to get a little more color and texture.
I assembled the petals as shown here two in the back and then two on top. Easy peasy!
